Fans Love for Basketball in the Philippines

In the Philippines, basketball is more than simply a sport; it's also a way of life, and every member of Philippine society wishes they could watch it nonstop.

Because of this, Filipinos will play any place there is a ball and a ring as long as they have the necessary equipment. The same principle applies to them when they travel to different basketball arenas to watch their respective teams compete.

The Filipino tradition of perseverance and hard effort is reflected in the sport of basketball. Everyone gathers together to participate in or watch games of the sport, which has evolved into a social event in its own right. The community nature of the Filipino people is one of the reasons why team sports have become so deeply embedded in the Philippine way of life.

Although most Filipinos are not among the tallest people, height is not the most important factor in the game. It makes little difference if the physique of the average Filipino is not suited for basketball. It is that joyful sensation one receives when one hangs out with friends and family to have some fun. Basketball is very popular in the Philippines because of its ability to bring people together.

Record-Breaking Attendance of all Time

During Game 7 of the 2017 Governors' Cup Finals, this PBA final broke the attendance record for the league.

Attendance at the Philippine Arena for Game Seven of the 2017 PBA Governors Cup Finals between Ginebra and Meralco was a record-breaking 54,086 people, smashing the previous mark that had stood for the entire 42-year existence of the league.

The previous record for attendance was established just two days before in Game Six, which was also held in the Philippine Arena, which is widely recognized as the largest indoor arena in the world. That game's attendance was 53,642.

The best-of-seven finals drew an astounding total of 144,173 fans throughout the course of the final three games played. Game Five alone brought in 36,445 visitors to the venue in Bulacan.

The previous record for the attendance of a game in this league was 52,612, which was established during the opening match of the 2014 season, which included a match between Ginebra and TNT

Largest Post-Pandemic Attendance

The COVID-19 epidemic had a tremendous effect on the way sports were played in the Philippines. This included both competitive sports leagues and tournaments as well as leisure sports played for fun.

The qualifiers for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup were postponed, which resulted in the rescheduling of the Philippine national team's home match against Thailand, which was scheduled to take place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on February 20, as well as the rescheduling of the Philippine national team's other games that were to follow.

After the first game of the 2020 season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the PBA D-League had been completed on March 10, 2020, the season was immediately and indefinitely postponed until further notice.

The first annual 3x3 event hosted by the PBA was also held up for the same reason. As opposed to the typical number of three conferences, the PBA only conducted one conference for the 2020 season.

The Philippine Cup, which was postponed, was restarted in the month of October in Clark, Pampanga, using a bubble format. A number of other leagues, including the Community Basketball Association, the National Basketball League, and the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, postponed their tournaments until March 12.

The record for the largest crowd attendance that was drawn during the coronavirus outbreak was again broken by the PBA, continuing a pattern that has become the norm.

The league said that there were 20,224 people in attendance for Game Six of the 2021-22 Governors Cup Finals between Ginebra and Meralco, which took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

This comes after the Barangay seized a 3-2 lead in the series after playing Game Five at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, which 18,251 people watched.
