The Bay Area Dragons will be playing in the EASL Basketball Champions Week tournament. This tournament features 10 teams, three of which are from the Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) that will be covered by EsballPH HaloWin Bet. Besides the Bay Area Dragons, the San Miguel Beermen and TNT Tropang Giga will be representing the PBA.
This EASL Basketball tournament features two groups of five teams where eight games will be played to decide the top four teams who will then compete for third place and the championship.
EsballPH HaloWin Bet believes that the Bay Area Dragons should be considered one of the favorites to win this EASL Basketball tournament. None of the three teams from the PBA will play each other in the group stage where the final seeding will come from. That doesn't mean that These three teams won't possibly meet in the final rounds of the EASL Basketball Champions Week. This is a small and short tournament with just ten teams participating and also only two guaranteed games per team.
The Bay Area Dragons will have to be sharp in both of their matchups to make the finals. If they can do that, EsballPH HaloWin Bet has them as one of the favorites to win the entire EASL Basketball tournament.
A Short Memory will be Needed from the PBA Bay Area Dragons
It wasn’t the best way to end the last PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022 season for the Bay Area Dragons. EsballPH HaloWin Bet covered them all the way through the PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022 final seven-game series where they ultimately fell to Barangay Ginerba San Miguel.
After defeating the San Miguel Beermen, who are also in the EASL Basketball Champion Week tournament, they lost in the final game. The series was back and forth as each team switched off winning games. It was a hard way to go out but now they will have another chance in a different tournament to win it all this time. Look for the Bay Area Dragons to come out strong here in this tournament.
Hayden Blankley and Myles Powell were both great for the Bay Area Dragons all PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022 season. Myles Powell was especially playing at an extremely high level. They will need him to play a key role in the EASL Basketball tournament for them to have a chance at winning it.
Myles Powell must lead Bay Area Dragons to victory
In the EASL Basketball tournament for the Champions Week, a team has to win all three of their games to win the championship. If a team’s first or second game results in a loss then that team won’t even have the chance to play in the finals.
Every game matters immensely in this EASL Basketball tournament. The Bay Area Dragons will need their star player Myles Powell to step up big-time in all of these games.
Myles Powell was routinely putting up massive stat lines such as he did in the PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022 finals when he had 29 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
On the season in the PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022, he averaged 36 points though. He was a monster and EsballPH HaloWin Bet believes that Myles Powell will need to score around that many points for them to win the EASL Champions Week championship.
How the PBA Bay Area Dragons can Win this EASL Basketball
We all know now that a ton of the fate of the Bay Area Dragons relies on Myles Blake Powell. He has been a scoring machine and helped lead this team to the finals and a near win in the PBA.
For them to win a tournament outside of the PBA, Myles Powell will have to have a big game but so will his supporting cast. In some of the big wins in the seven-game PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022 final series that ended in defeat, he had a ton of help from other players.
Hayden Blankley had some massive games down the stretch including one where he scored 25 points. For the course of the season, he averaged just over 12 points and he will need to have some big performances as he did at the end of the PBA Commissioner's Cup 2022 playoffs to get the Bay Area Dragons into the finals. If they are able to make it to the finals then this team still would have their work cut out for them.
PBA Bay Area Dragons Obstacles in the Path of Victory
The Bay Area Dragons won’t play another PBA team in the EASL Basketball group stage. Instead, they will face off against relatively unknown teams for them. In their first game, they will face the Seoul SK Knights.
This opponent should not be taken lightly. They are a competitive team and could surprise the Bay Area Dragons early on. The Seoul SK Knights have a good amount of talent on their roster including a couple of Americans that could be good players in the PBA as well.
If the Bay Area Dragons are able to get past the Seoul SK Knights in their first game then a ton will be riding on their second game against Utsunomiya Brex. This team is good.
They also have two Americans and one Australian on their team who have played at some high levels recently. It won’t be an easy path to the finals but the Bay Area Dragons will have to face both of these teams and beat them for a chance to play for the EASL Basketball Champions Week championship.
Can the Bay Area Dragons win the EASL Basketball Championship?
Out of the three teams from the PBA playing in the EASL Basketball Champions Week tournament EsballPH HaloWin Bet believes that the Bay Area Dragons have the best shot. In this style of tournament, it is really hard to pick a winner because it is essentially a single-elimination style.
If one of the first two games in EASL Basketball group play is lost then that team has no chance to play for the championship. Looking at the roster of the Bay Area Dragons they should have a good chance to win though.
